Our Matcha
Where does YUZUKI matcha come from?
All of our matcha is grown and milled in Japan. We source tencha from established growing regions — Uji (Kyoto), Yame (Fukuoka), Shizuoka, and Kagoshima — and each product names its origin on the label and product page.
Is your matcha ceremonial grade?
Our four core teas — Tamayura, Fuga, Tsukiarashi, and Hatsumukashi — are ceremonial grade, made from shade-grown, first-harvest leaves and slowly stone-milled. Each has a distinct character; see the collection overview to find your match.
Is the matcha pure? Any additives?
Yes — 100% ground Japanese green tea. No sugar, no flavorings, no fillers, and no added color.
How much caffeine does a bowl contain?
A standard 2 g serving carries roughly 60–70 mg of caffeine — less than a typical cup of coffee. Because matcha also contains L-theanine, most people experience a calmer, steadier lift. Read more in Matcha vs Coffee.
Preparing & Enjoying
How do I prepare a basic bowl of matcha?
Sift 2 g (about two bamboo scoops) into a bowl, add 70 ml of water at around 80°C, and whisk briskly in a zigzag motion until a fine foam forms. Full steps are on our Ritual page.
Why does my matcha taste bitter?
The usual causes are water that is too hot, too much powder, or matcha past its best. Let boiled water cool to about 80°C and start from 2 g per 70 ml. Our guide Why is some matcha bitter? covers this in detail.
Can I make lattes or use it in baking?
Absolutely. For lattes, whisk 3 g with 50 ml of water, then add 150–180 ml of milk. Bolder teas such as Tsukiarashi keep their character especially well in milk and desserts.
Do I need special tools to start?
A bamboo whisk (chasen) and a small sieve will noticeably improve texture, but a tightly-sealed jar shake or a milk frother can work at the very beginning. Start simple; upgrade as the ritual grows on you.
Storage & Freshness
How should I store my matcha?
Keep it sealed in its airtight, opaque tin, in a cool, dark, dry place, away from strong odors. Always use a dry spoon. See How to store matcha.
How long does matcha stay fresh?
Unopened, it keeps well for 6–12 months from production. Once opened, enjoy it within 4–8 weeks for peak color and flavor. Details in How long does matcha stay fresh?
Should I refrigerate it?
Unopened tins can be refrigerated for long-term storage. Once opened, a cool dark cupboard is usually safer — if you do refrigerate, let the tin reach room temperature before opening to avoid condensation.
